A mistrial was declared in 1994 and by 1995, both brothers were retried with only one jury. It was another whole year of walking in and out of court. They were held in prison without bail while the trial went on and by 1996, they were found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole.

Living His Fears

Lyle was worried all throughout the trial. He knew that they were going to eventually end up in jail. What he was most afraid of was that they were going to be separated. Lyle was serving his time in a prison near Tehachapi while Erik was in Sacramento. He knew that they had killed their father, but he also knew that he also wished that they never separate. Unfortunately, the court had plans of its own.
