Moving to the Big City

By 1986, the family had to move once more, and this time to Calabasas, California. Jose had big dreams for his two boys and while they did enjoy the comforts of life, they somehow didn’t shine academically the way their dad wanted them to. Erik earned average grades in high school and was doing better as a tennis player. Lyle, on the other hand, was placed on academic probation in Princeton University for poor grades as well as discipline issues.

On the outside, the Menendez family looked like an ideal bunch. They lived in a house that Elton John once rented, the boys attended prestigious schools, the father was a successful businessman who had money to spend, and the mom was this well-dressed woman who always seemed like she was in control. People who thought these things were obviously mistaken.
