Behind the Decision
At that time, California’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation made it a point to keep crime partners apart in order for the guilty to feel the gravity of their crimes even more. Defender Terri Towery couldn’t believe how vindictive the law had been. She was hoping that at least the brothers had each other as they spent the rest of their lives behind bars.
Out of Touch
The brothers hadn’t seen each other since the 1995 interview with Barbara Walters. Lyle, being the older one, always wanted to look after his baby brother. And since being in jail, they hardly kept in touch. When they did, they wouldn’t talk about what happened to their parents. The memory was just too painful to handle.
