When it was first reported that Cate Blanchett was going to play Bod Dylan in the biopic I’m Not There, people thought it wasn’t going to work. But it did. Seven actors played different versions of Bod Dylan, and Cate Blanchett, the only female to portray the singer, was one of those up for the challenge. She played the version of Dylan depicting the singer as a rock star “going electric and self-combusting in front of the media.” Asked if it was difficult for her to portray the role, Blanchett said, “I always dressed as a man when I was at school. I loved wearing a tie and shirt and I was always wearing suits.” She did end up looking the part, and although having a female actor portray the life of a real-life male character was one of the most controversial things to happen on the silver screen, they’ve managed to pull it off.
