Daniel Day-Lewis is an incredible method actor, a quality which he once more displayed while portraying Abraham Lincoln in the movie Lincoln, which won him his third Best Actor Oscar award. His method is sometimes described by film crew members as “madness.” He would stay in character at all times, even when films have long stopped rolling. Although it helped that his tall and slender figure made him resemble the historic U.S. president more nearly than anyone who ever played the same character, he still consumed any information he could find about Lincoln. He’d go through civil war era photos and re-enact the images. He wanted everything to be precise, an obsession which paid off when his portrayal was received with so much adoration.
