Despite its name, the Australian Shepherd is a working dog breed actually developed in the United States, tracing its origins to various Collie breeds, most especially the Border Collie. These intelligent pooches gained popularity after the 2nd World War, performing in rodeos, horse shows, and movies, thanks to their different talents and trainability. Aside from performing in shows, these medium-sized dogs, also known as “Aussies,” are great herders and are quite the sports dogs, competing in agility trials and frisbee sports. They are amazing search and rescue, disaster, detection, guide, service, and therapy dogs mainly because of their obedience and love for humans.
