Smile At Strangers

Unlike other countries where smiling at strangers is considered friendly and polite, in Russia it is the complete opposite. Russians only smile at people they know or are familiar with…smiling at strangers gives the impression you are making fun of them. Russians appear very serious and unfriendly, but they are not…they just do not want to offend you by smiling. So follow their lead.
