The opportunity that was supposed to turn things around

In summer of 2011, when Ralph was visiting a public library to look for a job online, he stumbled across a job listed on Craigslist ad. They were looking to hire someone to watch over a 600-acre cattle ranch with some maintenance work on the property- this was right up Ralph’s alley. What really caught Ralph’s eye was that the job provided a free accommodation in a two-bedroom mobile home on top of a $300 a week salary. Without hesitation, he answered the ad.

Summer Rowley, Ralph’s close friend, said August 8, 2011, was the last time she had heard from him. He called her from his mobile phone and told her he was on his way to Caldwell to start his new job in a couple of days. She said she was happy for him and asked him to stay in touch.
