Treating And Managing Lupus

Other Autoantibody Tests

Other blood tests look for individual types of autoantibodies that are specific to people with lupus, but not everyone with lupus tests positive and not all people who have these antibodies have lupus. These antibodies are anti-DNA, anti-Sm, anti-RNP, anti-Ro (SSA), and anti-La (SSB).
Some doctors may also order a test for anticardiolipin or antiphospholipid antibody. The presence of this antibody may be an indication of an increased risk for blood clotting and increased risk for miscarriage in pregnant women with the disease.
