NSAIDs

Drugs that decrease inflammation, called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), are often used for patients with fever or joint and chest pain. A doctor’s prescription is usually needed for these. Some can be bought over the counter, like ibuprofen and naproxen, but they still need to be taken under supervision. These can be used alone or in combination with other drugs to manage pain, swelling, and fever. Common side effects of these type of drugs may include stomach upset, heartburn, diarrhea, and fluid retention. Some lupus patients may also develop liver, kidney, or even neurological complications, making it vital to stay in close contact with the doctor while taking them.
