Typhoon Vera, also known as the Isewan Typhoon, was a Category 5 super typhoon that is the strongest and deadliest tropical cyclone to make landfall in Japan. Its strength resulted in devastation so severe that the Japanese economy, still healing from t WWII, was affected. Damage costs were estimated in excess of $261 million at the time with loss of life at a staggering 5,000 dead. Aside from the fallen, 40,000 people were left injured while another 1.6 million were rendered without homes.
