Although Typhoon Tip appears #8 on this list based on wind speed, it is notable that the super typhoon holds the #1 position as the strongest tropical cyclone in history when it comes to central pressure, bottoming out at a jaw-dropping 870 millibars. It also holds the record for the largest tropical cyclone with a wind spread of 1,380 miles (2,220 km), almost half the size of the United States mainland. All-in-all, the Category 5 super typhoon left 99 dead.
