A Surprising Confession

Michael Mele ended up turning himself in to the Newburgh Town police for reasons surrounding his 6-year sex offender probation charge and violating it. He had failed to attend his Sex Offender meetings, amongst other offenses. While under scrutiny, he also confessed to the murder of Laura Garza, explaining that he had, in fact, taken her back to his apartment and what happened while they were there, was not a planned attack.

Explaining What Happened

Michael said that when they arrived at this apartment, Laura was upset at finding out that he had a girlfriend. She asked him to drive her back to the city. Mele went on to say, “She wanted to leave. I didn’t want to drive back. She started to get a little louder. I put my hand over her mouth and partially her nose, and shortly after that, she stopped yelling, stopped moving, and I realized something bad had happened.”
