Holding A Vigil For Laura

Family, friends and other citizens held a vigil on February 5, 2009, right in front of the house of Mele’s parents. Her family expressed their sadness and anger regarding the 23-year sentencing of Michael. Her mother Elizabeth said, “For me, there is no justice. He should be put away for the rest of his life because he took my heart. I hope he melts in jail.”

Finding Laura’s Body

More than one year later, on April 11, Laura’s skeletal remains were found in a field in Olyphant, just outside Scranton, Pennsylvania. where Mele said he dumped the body. Bill Satkowski of the Pennsylvania State Police said, “Now that the victim’s identified, we felt it was important to look at the scene again to see if there was any evidence we might not have been able to see the first time around.”
