Out of touch with reality

Amy was described by most of her fellow colleagues as incredibly smart, but she was also unnecessarily harsh toward the other professors as she sought people’s praise and approval. Sometimes her strange behavior was hard to overlook. On several occasions, she would interrupt meetings with off-topic issues. She was also described as a person who was “out of touch with reality.”

“She did things that weren’t normal”

Unfortunately, Amy’s worst fear finally happened. In 2009, her tenure was denied. And to make matters worse, while she was still reeling over what happened, she learned that one of her colleagues called her “crazy,” for which she filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, accusing him of gender discrimination. The professor admitted to calling Amy “crazy” multiple times but said he was not going to take it back. In the professor’s own words: “This woman has a pattern of erratic behavior.
