Tenure denial and appeal
According to James Anderson, Amy’s husband, the denial of her tenure in 2009 distressed her. The university maintained that the process of denying her tenure was carried out according to policy. Amy appealed the decision and even hired a lawyer to help her with her case, but her appeal was eventually barred. All this gave a tremendous amount of stress to Amy.
Death by accident
However, this was not Amy Bishop’s first encounter with law enforcement. In 1986, Amy shot her brother dead with a shotgun after an argument. The University of Alabama and her other employers were never aware of her past. Amy was never charged because the incident was ruled as an accident based on her mother’s testimony.
