Donald Trump’s rise in the business world wasn’t without any hiccups. In 1969, the father and son team was slapped with a case of racial discrimination by the people managing a property they owned in Ohio but was quietly settled upon the behest of the older Trump.

In 1975, another lawsuit was served on the duo by the Justice Department after it was seen that their company systematically preferred to rent out their properties to those who were not of African-American descent, screening tenants based on race and not economic status. Despite this, the Trump Organization flourished at the helm of its young president and CEO, much to the pride of his father and founder, Fred Trump, who is seen in this sunny father’s day photo with Donald on that same year.
