Proof of Cruelty
The reminders of the Nazi reign were never pleasant to look at, even then. In the amphitheater was a base-relief sculpture by German artist Walter von Ruckteschell. It showed German troops marching throughout the city. Aside from the swastika flags placed alongside the Olympic flag, this was one of the saddest reminders of the country’s history.
After the Event
After the Olympic events took place, Germans wanted to use the village for future events. The facilities were turned to a military academy and later on, a hospital for the wounded soldiers of World War II.
