The judge had no choice but to give him the 20-year sentence. This was legal in the state of Illinois and the bargain was made when he gave out the important details. The people in court weren’t happy with the outcome but they had no other alternative but to give it to him. And since he had already served a part of his sentence, he had only 85 percent left of his punishment before he could be considered for parole.

During the court case, Jacque’s sister, Cheryl, was constantly yelling at Clay. She had repeatedly told the court what the death had done to the family. Then, she asked the defendant if this was all worth it. Clay just kept his head bowed at all times, saying nothing at all.
