LIBERATED AT LAST
By 1945, the Nazi rule in Auschwitz finally came to an end. Prisoners were freed and the kids who were experimented on were placed under the local care of nuns who tried to provide them with a variety of toys and goods. Many of these prisoners were hungry for food, as were the kids, but Eva realized that while she craved for nourishment, she longer had the desire to play.
OUT WENT THE ROSE COLORED GLASSES
When asked about how she felt about the toys the nuns provided, Eva felt somewhat insulted. She knew that they meant well, but to her, these well-meaning folks just couldn’t understand that they were no longer children. In fact, she never played with toys ever again. The experience scarred her for life, but what set her apart was how she dealt with the cards she was given.
