For months now, the northwest region of Spain has been hit with a severe drought. The ravaging calamity has brought the driest period the region has experienced in over three decades. And when the waters have mostly dried up, old towns and villages that were previously submerged are now once again visible.

These towns were submerged during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco more than 50 years ago. To improve the water supply of Spain, dams and reservoirs were built all over the country. Towns and villages had to be relocated, while ancient and original structures were submerged underwater.

Even once busy streets and ancient Roman buildings were flooded.
