The severity of the drought caused most of the moisture to disappear, leaving behind cracks along the riverbed of the Belesar reservoir. Because of the extreme dryness over the reservoir, the place is now in total desolation and an image of harshness washes over the land.

The last severe drought this Spanish region went through was in 1981. And the latest ongoing dry spell caused the reservoir levels to fall to just 25 percent of its usual capacity. That’s lower than average and much lower than the region needs to sustain the surrounding communities.
