Images Show How Spain’s Severe Drought Reveals Lost Worlds

And now, the low water levels are revealing what have been previously submerged: old towns and archeological sites that have been lost underwater for decades. Tourists from all the over the country and from other parts of Europe have been heading to the region to see firsthand the remains of the past, which may soon disappear again after the drought, never to be seen again for a long time.

Even before the severe drought hit, the peaks of the old buildings are sometimes revealed during the driest point of the summer months. People living around the region weren’t sure just how much of the structures underwater was still intact until they were revealed recently. And for the first time since the area was flooded, visitors are now able to walk on the remains of these villages.
