AMERICO THE GREEDY
Pooling money for the lottery isn’t uncommon. This is exactly what Americo Lopes and his five colleagues did. They won a total 38.5 million dollars but got $17.4 million after taxes, which is to say, is still an impressive amount. However, Americo didn’t believe in sharing. He bought the tickets, kept them, and stayed mum when they won. He simply quit his job and told everyone that he had to rest due to a foot injury. Someone eventually caught wind of the story and the five men sued him. He was then ordered to split the money. He lost way more than half his winnings and ALL of his friends.
