Mary’s daughter and Shiue’s other victim, Beth, who was around 37-years old at the time, shared, “I’m a mother today. Everything he ever told us during the kidnapping, he did. I don’t know that I’d let my children go out to a park, to a mall, if he were released.” And given the details of the dreadful events they lived through, it’s completely understandable why she would feel this way.

Mary Stauffer’s Amazing Recovery

Despite the horrific things that the mother-daughter pair went through, Mary explained how it was because of her faith, and the support of her husband and family, that she was able to get through everything. Throughout the years, she and her husband have gone on with their missionary work in the Philippines, helping others to the best of their abilities. And they also share how they will fight for Shiue to be forced to go to a psychiatric hospital, should his parole ever push through. Hopefully, that day will never come.
