Kenneth Arnold UFO Sighting
On June 24, 1947, in what is now known as the beginning of the post-war era sighting of UFOs, private pilot Kenneth Arnold claimed he saw a series of nine, glimmering UFOs flying past Mount Rainier in Washington. Arnold described the flying objects as being saucer-shaped, leading the press to coin the terms flying disc and flying saucers as alternative names for unidentified flying objects.
