In August 1883, while observing the sunspot activity at the Zacatecas Observatory in Mexico, astronomer José Bonilla saw more than 300 dark objects crossing the sun disk. He immediately took some photographs. It was argued that what he saw may have been high-flying geese, but Bonilla maintained it was something else. The speed at which the objects were traveling made the geese hypothesis unlikely.
