Because of it being one of the poorest cities in California and the US, Compton has been a hot bed for violent crimes, beating the nationwide average three times over. High-paying jobs are available but since only 8 out of 100 people hold a college degree, these employment opportunities remain out of reach for majority of the able-bodied work force residing within its limits.
