The community rallied behind the family, with more than 300 volunteers from around the region, helping the local law enforcement in their search. All possible areas were searched, with the volunteers being led in groups by the authorities. The FBI and West Virginia State Police got involved as well. The authorities were actually overwhelmed by the outpouring of support in the search for Riley. Berkeley Springs High School asked its student body to support the search efforts and asked for the school’s colors of blue and gold to be worn as a sign of support. By this time, Lance Crossman expressed their fear that Riley could be anywhere in the country, or outside of it.
