A week after the body was found, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that the body is really that of Riley Crossman. The community held a vigil in memory of Riley the night before she was buried, releasing sky lanterns with messages to Riley at 11:11 PM. On the day of Riley’s funeral, community members gathered together and colored the street purple. According to a social media post by Riley’s father, Lance, and stepmother, Jess Crossman, “Every single act of kindness we have received during this dark time has served as a small light among that darkness,” and added, “Riley would be so impressed with this community of family, friends, neighbors and total strangers who have come together in her name.”
