To save time in between takes, Anthony Hopkins’ character, Hannibal Lecter, remained strapped in a straight-jacket with a leather muzzle covering his face which made it impossible for the actor to eat by himself as his hands were bound. The slits on the mask couldn’t fit a human liver (not that he wanted to eat that) and only allowed thin strips of food to be inserted, making French fries the snack of choice.
