Born Jewish, Librescu and his family would find themselves ostracized for their religious beliefs during one of the most life-defining times in world history. In a scary turn of events for him and his family, Romania would end up becoming a part of Nazi Germany, which meant that all the Jews in Romania were either shipped off to concentration camps, or worse, killed.

While his father was sent to the Transnistria labor camp, Librescu and the rest of his family members were sent to the ghetto in Focsani. And while he was there, he too, was subjected to life in a labor camp. But while his days were filled with hardship and fear, he also found his life purpose.
