AIDS was considered a very taboo and scary disease when it first began to infect people sometime in the 80s. Hersch was a well-known jazz pianist who found out that he had contracted the dreaded disease in the early 1990s. Since there were not as many cases of AIDS during that time, it was difficult to control and caused many complications for most of those who had it.

Falling Into A Coma

Sometime in 2008, Hersch’s blood oxygen levels went down to epic lows, causing him to fall into septic shock, which in turn made him comatose. Although he was only in a coma for two months, the aftermath of the coma on his system was serious. Thankfully, he pushed through and worked very hard to get back to the one thing he loved, playing piano.
