His death sparked a number of controversies about what happened to him. Some said he was killed by members of the mafia, which obviously wasn’t true. Others claimed that he was a Czech spy, which actually turned out to be correct. But the real story behind his disappearance was that he had escaped to Australia with his mistress who was also his secretary. He was eventually caught when his money laundering shenanigans were noticed by others. He did end up dying for real in 1988, 9 years after he was released from prison.

Arthur Bennett

Arthur Bennett was a Marine Staff Sergeant whose life was turned topsy-turvy after he was charged with sexual assault. He was accused of molesting his own daughters and some other marine’s children. Disgraced, he decided to fake his death by pretending to burn to death in his trailer home in 1994. When investigators sifted through the remains, they found a completely charred body and the military chose to bury him with full honors since he didn’t go through the trial.
