Although it would still be confirmed later on that Ed had died from blunt force trauma to the head, it was obvious to the authorities that he had suffered severe hits to the head. And when his body was sent to the medical examiner, the results would come back that he had been hit repeatedly on his head with a hammer, truly making blunt force trauma as the cause of death, and therefore, the case was considered as a homicide.
