The historic Monte Cristo Homestead is a late Victorian home where seven deaths occurred in the 19th century. It is said to be the most haunted house in all of Australia. Reports of regular ghost sightings have been documented there. It now also serves as an antique store and a musuem.
5. The McPike Mansion, Alton, Illinois
The McPike Mansion was built in 1869 by Henry Guest McPike and is one of the most notorious haunted houses in the United States. According to current owners Sharyn and George Luedke, the house is haunted by apparitions of a former owner and a former servant.
