His Wife, Rosemarie

In 1956, at the age of 21, Fritzl married Rosemarie, who was only 17 years old at the time. What she couldn’t have known was that her life as the wife of Josef Fritzl was going to turn out to be a horrible and violent one. Elisabeth went on to bear 7 children, 2 boys, and 5 girls. If she only knew what her husband was going to end up doing to their young daughter, Elisabeth, she might have never had them in the first place.

Living In Fear

It was said that in the 52-years of marriage to Josef, Rosemarie would endure endless beatings. She was so afraid of Josef that she never spoke about her internal suffering. In fact, she was so frightened by the viciousness of her husband, that she just withstood his brutality. She admitted later on that she was scared that if she mentioned something to one of her friends “she feared Fritzl would track her down and murder her if she ever tried to leave him.”
