It would come to pass that Fritzl also had a background of other horrible deeds aside from beating his wife. In 1967, after being married to Rosemarie for around 11 years, he raped a 24-year-old nurse. It was reported that he entered the house of the Linz family and held a knife to her throat, threatening to slice it open if she tried to scream. And this wasn’t the only account of his abominable behavior. He was also accused of an attempted rape that same year, as well as public obscenity and exposure. Thankfully, he was caught and ended up serving 18-months of jail time for his crimes.

A Family Of Nine

With so many children, Josef required a large place to live with his family of 9. Aside from his home in Amstetten, in 1972 he bought a guesthouse and other properties, which he and his wife rented out. He had worked at a construction material firm, and then later on as a salesman for technical equipment, requiring him to travel around Austria. He was able to make a decent living for him and his family, which allowed for times of enjoyment and traveling.
