Venison refers to deer meat, including any part of the animal that can be eaten, such as the liver, heart and kidneys. Its taste is very similar to beef, but a bit richer and gamier, with a finer texture compared to the latter. Because it is leaner and hormone free, thanks to the animal’s healthy diet of wild plants and grass, it is considered by nutritionists to be a very healthy meat to consume, except for its high purine content that makes it a food to avoid for people with gout.
