21 Governments That Don’t Want You To Visit Their Country

13. Syria

Syria is home to Damascus and Aleppo, some of the oldest cities in Western Asia. At the moment, it is one of the most dangerous places on earth, so technically you can’t go and if you can, you just shouldn’t. Because of the Syrian Civil War and the refugee crisis, tourism has greatly decreased. An estimated 200,000 Syrians have died and millions have been forced into exile, Westerners, including aid workers and journalists have been targeted both for kidnapping and execution, many tourist attractions have been destroyed by shelling, flights have been suspended, and hotels have closed. Visas to visit the Syria need the government’s approval and the wait time is estimated to go for years as some of the requirements are to have purchased round-trip tickets and/or have a confirmed itinerary and border control may refuse your entry even if holding a valid visa.
