A number of companies offer tours to Afghanistan even though deaths from violence in the country have increased and travel has been highly restricted. Most countries advise against travelling to most parts of Afghanistan and the US State Department warns there is a risk of “kidnapping, hostage taking, military combat operations, landmines, banditry, armed rivalry between political and tribal groups, militant attacks, direct and indirect fire, suicide bombings, and insurgent attacks, including attacks using vehicle-borne or other improvised explosive devices”.
