21 Governments That Don’t Want You To Visit Their Country

17. Yemen

The Republic of Yemen is an Arab country in Western Asia. In days past, it was a place to search for the secret of eternal life and the Queen of Sheba called Yemen her home. Among several other marvelous places to explore, such as Socotra Island, with its unique dragon’s blood trees and the City of Shibam nicknamed ‘Manhattan of the Desert’, Yemen has four World Heritage Sites, some of them have suffered extremists attacks and as of today travellers can’t visit this country’s awe-inspiring sites due to its civil war crisis. It’s simply not safe to travel to Yemen. Foreigners staying in Yemen for more than two weeks are required to register at their nearest police station and if at the time of departure the visitors have failed to register, a fine of YR 5,000 will be charged.  Various countries have advised against visiting Yemen including matters related to terrorism, local laws and customs, visa requirements and safety. Recommendations  are to respect local Islamic customs, dress modestly and to refrain from drinking alcohol in public.
