Robert noticed that things eventually became better for him. He wasn’t the most popular boy. Girls weren’t chasing him and boys weren’t fighting over who gets to sit next to him during lunch, but at least they didn’t shun nor ignore him. In fact, he eventually had friends and started experiencing a normal school life.

As they say, it takes all kinds to make the world, and Robert was certainly aware of this. He did have people to talk to but there were still a few out there who called him names behind his back. The worst he’s heard were “cripple” and “toe nose.” The latter came from the fact that cartilage that that came from his amputated toes was used to build his nose.
