Courage Gained
Robert’s growing years gave him the courage needed to be a better man. When he went to camp, the boys who shared a cabin with him had to perform for talent night. He volunteered to do a handstand. This was the very first time he took of his artificial legs in front of a crowd. Still, he went on by planting his hands onstage and going for what he promised. They won that night because of him and while they only did get a chocolate bar, the applause that he got at the end of the performance gave him a feeling of elation like no other.
Stopping Surgeries
Every year, surgeons would try to correct a bit of Robert’s face. However, it became too dangerous for him. His bones had been moved around too much (24 times in total) that there was a risk of either going blind or dying. Hence, at the age of 14, he decided to stop the procedures. It wasn’t worth it. More importantly, he learned to live with what he had.
