The Red Flag

People were sacrificing their lives to try to get the radiation exposure under control, doing clean-up throughout the facilities. In order to symbolize that the clean-up was done, three men in particular were asked to climb to the top of the 3rd reactor to put up a red flag. Incredulously, their reward was one day off from work, and one bottle of Pepsi ‘which was a luxury at the time.’
