Incredibly, Chernobyl was not the first time that the Soviets had a nuclear disaster. Back in 1957, the town of Ozyorsk had a level 6 disaster that affected a radius of over 7,700 square-miles. This was considered ‘the third most serious nuclear disaster ever recorded.’
