Located around the Chernobyl Power Plant, what is now known as the ‘Red Forest’ was once 4-square miles of pine trees. After they absorbed the high levels of radiation from the blast, these trees turned from a deep green into a sea of red. They were eventually plowed down and buried in what were called “waster graveyards.”
