To the gratification of the community, friends, family and especially the parents of Dru, Rodriguez was sentenced to death on September 22, 2006. Then on February 8, 2007, it was made official. He was sent to the United States Penitentiary in Indiana to await his execution in South Dakota.

Saying Goodbye

When they finally laid Dru to rest, it was a day of unimaginable sadness, and yet some relief as well. Boyfriend Chris Lang had even said, that despite the gruesome attack and murder of his girlfriend, “he does not feel disillusioned by human nature. Instead, he remains astounded and grateful to the thousands of volunteers who helped look for Sjodin. And he will always love Sjodin.”
