Based on CNN reports, “The country is notoriously difficult to get information on and its sanctions-hit economy is said to operate on a number of different levels, including a black market, with the government not even releasing official trade statistics”. North Korea’s economy is one of the world’s “most centrally directed and least open” and faces “chronic economic problems,” according to the CIA World Factbook.

The city of Pyongyang has wide open roads that have nearly non-existent traffic controlled by a legion of “robotic-yet-attractive traffic ladies”. In actuality, no one buys a car in North Korea. Instead, they are given to the people by the party. The city is peppered with trucks and bicycles instead. However, North Korea’s interior is very mountainous and dangerous to drive through since the roads are in horrible condition with virtually no refueling stops.
