Based on Los Angeles Times reports, a farm in North Korea may still be staged for tourists. Jangchon has new, improved and more eco-friendly agricultural systems that could possibly help the notoriously food-challenged country of 24 million. It is filled with robust plots of chives, lettuce, and cabbage; but with only a few farm workers, many wonder how they are able to keep a supposedly working farm so clean as to seem almost sterile.

Workers in North Korea’s mining industry labor under brutal conditions, suffering frequent accidents and a wide range of human rights violations, a report released by Radio Free Asia. Forced labor in North Korea’s mines violates not only international human rights standards ratified by the isolated, authoritarian state, but also rights guaranteed by North Korea’s own laws.
